Truecaller unveiled the world’s first AI-cloned voice detection

All a user needs to do is hit a specific button in the Truecaller interface if they receive a suspicious call. The call is instantly merged with their secure phone line, which records a sample of the caller’s voice. After that, the advanced AI model from Truecaller analyzes this audio clip.

It’s equally astounding and scary that AI voice synthesizers only need just three seconds of your voice to generate a complete clone of it! Illegal voice cloning and speech synthesis technologies have become a grievous issue and are rapidly flourishing. Unfortunately, they are already commoditized and ubiquitous. The fear of our loved ones being in danger is the most sensitive aspect of people’s psychology, and here is where the next wave of AI scams will prey.

Truecaller has integrated the AI Call Scanner directly into the Truecaller Android app and is being rolled out globally as part of its Premium membership. The US is the first market to receive this feature. The system is made with efficiency and simplicity in mind. All a user needs to do is hit a specific button in the Truecaller interface if they receive a suspicious call. The call is instantly merged with their secure phone line, which records a sample of the caller’s voice. After that, the advanced AI model from Truecaller analyzes this audio clip. It has reportedly undergone extensive training to recognize the distinctive features of human speech and set it apart from AI-generated voices.

Alan Mamedi, CEO and Co-founder at Truecaller stated “The risks of AI voice scams are increasing due to the proliferation of AI voice synthesizers. Our goal has been to find an effective and reliable solution before things get out of hand. I am proud to announce that Truecaller is the world’s first dialler with built-in AI voice detection. Truecaller already uses AI in many ways, and this was a logical and much-needed extension of Truecaller’s scam fighting abilities “.

While the AI Call Scanner is initially launching on Android, Truecaller has reassured its users that they are actively exploring ways to enhance and expand its capabilities, including an upcoming iOS launch. They are currently researching ways to improve the accuracy of the AI model, minimize response times, and adapt to new developments in speech synthesis technology. To further extend the impact and reach of the AI Call Scanner, Truecaller is also considering integrating it with additional communication platforms and devices, demonstrating its commitment to staying one step ahead of AI voice scams.
